Since its introduction, stretch wrapping is just about the dominant approach to unitizing items for safe shipment for their locations. But, it is so routine that typically we forget the basic principles.
The next five basic principles of stretch wrapping underlie the entire process of load unitization and containment.
In the beginning, companies would like to floor load trucks with separate and individual boxes, a technique which was labor intensive and time intensive.
Due to the ergonomic and economic benefits of stretch wrappers, unitizing items on the pallet with stretch film grew to become probably the most broadly used material handling way of shipping items. Rather than taking many employees to floor load a truck, nowadays, a nice forklift driver could load a whole truck in under half an hour.
Containment is the opportunity to hold unitized loads together. It may be accomplished in lots of ways with respect to the load’s make-up. Today, stretch film is just about the most widely used method to contain unitized pallet loads since it provides effective and economical containment when correctly applied. Other less-popular containment techniques include using shipping containers, shedding large “hoods” over pallets, or acquiring pieces with bands metallic, polyester, polypropylene or nylon.
